BBB Warns ESA Owners, No More Flights

The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning to emotional support animal owners. It recommends they do not book flights expecting the same treatment they received in 2020. Now, the rules have changed.

In early 2021, the Department of Transportation issued new guidelines for commercial airlines. According to the new rules, airlines are not required to provide reasonable accommodation for ESAs. They can choose to classify ESAs as pets, rather than assistance animals.

In practical terms, this means that ESA owners will have to pay a pet fee if they wish to travel with their furry companion. This fee varies from airline to airline. Moreover, there are weight and size restrictions that ESAs must obey if they are to travel in the cabin.
